Creative Placemaking

LISC invests in creative placemaking work in communities all across the country. We do this by supporting partnerships that inject arts and culture into revitalization work in locally relevant ways. These projects not only help transform the physical environment, they also spark economic growth and strengthen a sense of community identity, ownership and pride. Below are the creative placemaking organizations in our portfolio.

Bok Building

The Bok Building is home to small, creative businesses, artists, restaurants, makers and entrepreneurs. In an effort to better support tenants during this uncertain time, Bok has compiled a list of some of the tenants offering virtual shopping and service options.

Brooklyn Navy Yard

The Navy Yard embraces a diverse ecosystem of growing businesses operating at the intersection of manufacturing, design and technology. The tenant directory includes businesses offering virtual shopping and service options. Some of the Navy Yard manufacturers have switched over to producing the critical personal protective equipment for medical personnel that are currently in such short supply.

Century Design Workshop

Century Design Workshop is the home of Michael Miritello Woodworking and SKT Ceramics. SKT Ceramics are available through their online shop.

The Clay Studio

The Clay Studio in Philadelphia is one of the nation's oldest and most respected centers for ceramics. You can support their artists through purchases on their online shop.

Circle City Industrial Complex

Support artists, businesses, and makers located in Circle City.

Downtown Community Television Center

The Downtown Community Television Center is a community media center offering a number of online training options and documentaries for purchase while their physical location is closed.

Evergreen Exchange

Greenpoint Manufacturing and Design

LaMama Experiential Theater

La MaMa is a world-renowned cultural institution and nonprofit theatre in New York's East Village. La MaMa and CultureHub are teaming up to create Downtown Variety, a weekly online live performance series featuring short performances of dance, music, theater, new media, comedy, A/V performance, and more! You can also support them by making a donation or buying a gift certificate for future performances.

The Loppet Foundation

The Loppet Foundation offers year-round outdoor adventure in the Minneapolis area, focusing on underserved youth and families. They have a number of courses you can register for once social isolation is over, or stock up on all the right gear by visiting their shop.

MaKen Studios

Overbrook Education Center

A community-based center dedicated to the preservation of our built and natural environments; improved public health; and for the promotion of sustainable and livable communities that offer a variety of programs and services.


SkyART provides art programs to more than 3,500 young people annually. You can support them by purchasing art works created by participants.


Small Businesses & Restaurants

LISC serves businesses overlooked by traditional financing channels, providing flexible loan options and technical support. We support businesses in low- and moderate-income communities in the underserved and rural communities where we work, with a focus on those owned by veteran, woman, and minority entrepreneurs.

Lawn care, snow removal, salting service, and general landscaping business in the Toledo area.


CO+HOOTS is the leading collaborative coworking space in Phoenix, acting as a supercharger for innovation and entrepreneurship. They’re offering a number of virtual workshops for entrepreneurs across the country.


InverSOL produces solar product arrays integrating the latest technologies in wireless, blockchain, and home automation. The company has created low-cost, locally made solar generators for Puerto Rico that ensure families are not left without power after disasters that affect the power grid.

J&G Pallets and Trucking

Provides pallets and pallet transportation solutions with an emphasis on maintaining affordable rates.


Supra is a small business enterprise located in a historically underutilized business zone where it maintains its office and warehouse space. The company supplies crucial laboratory supplies, lab equipment, janitorial and cleaning supplies, and office equipment

Access to fresh food is a critical ingredient of a healthy, thriving community, but it can be a significant challenge for many low-income residents–especially those living in food deserts. LISC has long invested in grocery stores and other food outlets in our target neighborhoods, not only to improve nutrition and health, but as an economic development strategy that promotes commercial revitalization and job creation.
