About Us

Strategies We Pursue

  • Strengthen existing alliances while building new collaborations to increase our impact on the progress of people and places
  • Develop leadership and the capacity of partners to advance our work together
  • Equip talent in underinvested communities with the skills and credentials to compete successfully for quality income and wealth opportunities
  • Invest in businesses, housing and other community infrastructure to catalyze economic, health, safety and educational mobility for individuals and communities
  • Drive local, regional, and national policy and system changes that foster broadly shared prosperity and well-being

In 1995, LISC launched Rural LISC to expand its reach beyond urban areas to include rural communities. Today, Rural LISC partners with 88 rural community-based organizations, including six financial intermediaries:  California Coalition for Rural Housing (CCRH), Center on Rural Innovation (CORI), Communities Unlimited, Fahe, Rural Community Assistance Corporation (RCAC) and Wisconsin Housing & Economic Development Authority (WHEDA). Together we are working to transform communities in more than 2,200 counties across 45 states. For a current "by the numbers" overview of Rural LISC's progress to date, see the Rural LISC Fact Sheet.

Rural LISC supports its Partner organizations through capacity building grants, predevelopment grants, repayable investments, low cost lending capital and equity investments. In addition to financial support, Rural LISC provides tailored technical assistance and training to each Partner, helping them develop strategies that fit their local needs.

Rural LISC works to equip rural areas with capital, strategy and technical assistance – helping to preserve and strengthen rural life, and providing a supportive network that connects community-based organizations to each other.
