Affordable Housing

A safe, affordable home is key to individual health and well-being, and the foundation for a sustainable, economically vibrant, and inclusive community.

Housing is where LISC started. And it’s still the cornerstone of our mission, even as our vision has expanded to include catalyzing opportunity for people and places in many ways: through education, good jobs, health, safety and economic development. LISC continues to make quality, affordable housing available to low-income and vulnerable residents—from seniors to veterans to the formerly homeless—in underserved communities.

With the opening of the Upstate South Carolina office, LISC kicked off investments with $9.15 million to support two affordable housing initiatives totaling over $45 million in development. Since launching the local office in 2019, LISC and our affiliates have invested over $55 million in affordable housing, resulting in theconstruction or preservation of over 700 affordable homes in the Upstate.  Through LISC Upstate’s work to support preservation, including home repair, development, and stabilization, we hope to break down barriers and help SC residents achieve safe, affordable homes today, and as a tool to build wealth and disrupt generational poverty.
