LISC joins with affordable housing advocates to oppose federal funding cuts

WHAT: Local leaders and elected officials in affordable housing will join with LISC San Diego (Local Initiatives Support Organization) Monday, November 27, at 10 am to voice their support of a threatened federal funding tool that now provides tax-exempt financing for such projects, a critical need in this time of chronic homelessness.

The news conference will be held at Celadon, an affordable housing complex located downtown. Your coverage is invited.

DATE/TIME: Monday, November 27, 2017, 10 am-11 am
SITE: Celadon, 929 Ninth Avenue, downtown San Diego, 92101

SCHEDULED SPEAKERS:

The LISC-led announcement brings together many of the region’s nonprofit social service organizations that serve the homeless at a critical time: San Diego’s homeless population ranks among the nation’s highest.

“We don’t regard this as a politically divisive issue,” said Flores. “Instead, it has to do with retaining San Diego’s urban quality of life. We stand firmly with our fellow affordable housing and homeless advocates to declare that any move by Congress to kill the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit will significantly increase homelessness here in San Diego, and likely worsen its spillover effects, including the potential for further outbreaks of hepatitis A.”
