Back to School Facilities Planning in the Era of COVID-19

Making decisions about the “right way” to return to schools, has been a major challenge for school operators this Back to School season. For schools that have decided to return to in-person instruction there is the additional challenge of meeting social distancing and other safety measures, without adequate financial resources to do so. These are the realities Brooklyn Lab Charter School grappled with when preparing for their own school reopening.
In partnership with the Urban Projects Collaborative, the Brooklyn Lab Charter School assembled their “Facilities Planning in the Era of COVID-19” Guide, which chronicles the critical findings from their journey to re-opening. Over the course of this webinar representatives from Brooklyn Lab Charter School and UPC will share best practice strategies for preventing the spread of COVID, containing the spread of COVID, and creating iterative processes for continually improving the physical school facility to best serve students during this pandemic. Our hope is that all schools will walk away from this webinar with adaptable strategies that they can apply to their own school reopenings.
Over the course of the webinar we will hear from representatives from Brooklyn Lab Charter School and Urban Projects Collaborative. The conversation will be moderated by Yvonne Nolan from the Local Initiatives Support Corporation.
After this webinar attendees will be able to:
- Hear about the findings from the Brooklyn Lab and UPC teams while putting together their “Brooklyn Laboratory Charter Schools Public School Facilities Planning in the Era of COVID-19” Guide and preparing and implementing their own school reopening plan.
- Identify the key processes and procedures that need to be in place in order to prevent and contain the spread of COVID-19 in their own school buildings.
- Get realistic guidance about how they can prepare their school building for a safe re-opening in the midst of this COVID-19 pandemic.
