Growing Leadership, Building Community Resident Leadership Conference

On November 5, more than 115 Newark residents took part in the Growing Leadership, Building Community Resident Leadership conference. This annual event, which took place at Rutgers University, consisted of a series of leadership workshops and other community development and issue-based seminars. Workshop titles included:

• ABCs of Effective Leadership
• Be Part of the Solution: Becoming Community Problem-Solvers
• How to Integrate, Involve, and Engage Newcomers in Your Neighborhood
• Improving our Individual Financial Capacity to Better Meet the Needs of our Families and Communities
• JUSTICE OR JUST US: Different Ways Young People Can Stimulate Change.

Workshops ran concurrently and participants had the opportunity to select two workshops to attend during the day. The training was open to all residents in the community interested in building their leadership skills. At the end of the conference, participants regrouped and shared major takeaways and ideas for continued progress.

The conference is meant to be a precursor event to the Newark Resident Leadership Academy, an intense leadership training program that targets residents in select neighborhoods in the City of Newark.
