Community Facilities

Community facilities are part of the backbone of healthy neighborhoods, just as affordable housing, businesses and jobs are. Nationally, LISC finances facilities that range from new clinics in healthcare deserts, sports facilities to spur youth engagement and charter schools that offer new opportunities to kids. LISC provides predevelopment financing to help plan for new efforts, while investing equity and debt to get projects off the ground.

Mays Family Clubhouse—Boys & Girls Club of San Antonio

If you want to assess the wellbeing of a community, look closely at the wellbeing of its children. That’s why LISC invests so heavily in projects and programs that open new doors for youth.

Recent efforts include organizing $7 million in New Markets Tax Credit capital for the Boys & Girls Club of San Antonio. The investment supported construction of the Mays Family Clubhouse on the near South Side, which opened for kids and young adults ages 6-18 in 2017. The facility houses a teaching kitchen, full-size gym, playground, art room, STEM lab, learning center, games room and a teen center. The Boys & Girls club provides developmental programs focused on building academic success, healthy lifestyles, good character and citizenship.
