Jacksonville Business Journal – November 14: How a local nonprofit is looking to save $167 million in wealth locked up in Jacksonville homes

The JBJ attended LISC Jacksonville’s Estate Planning Forum in October and published this article to feature the event but more importantly, the essential work happening to address the issue of heirs’ property and the need proper estate planning to preserve generational wealth.

Jacksonville has one of the densest collections of [heirs’] properties, according to LISC Jacksonville, the nonprofit that put on the estate planning event and has made heirs' property a focus of its efforts.

In Jacksonville — where neighborhoods filled with heirs properties sit a short distance away from massive developments like the under-construction Four Seasons, making sure long-term residents aren't taken advantage of is vital, LISC Jacksonville Executive Director PeDro Cohen said.

"I've been very candid that this is our anti-gentrification process," he said. "It will never stop people from selling their homes, but now they're informed, they have the same information the investor does.
