July Disability Pride Month

In this month’s Community Wise Podcast, we are discussing Disability Pride Month, which initially started as a day of celebration in 1990—the year that the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law. Disability Pride Month is celebrated every July and is an opportunity for the world to honor the history, achievements, experiences and struggles of the disabled community. LISC KC’s Holly Long sits down with advocate Mark Irvin, a real estate enthusiast and construction expert, who recently experienced a life-altering event that paralyzed him from the chest down. He has adjusted remarkably well to his new lifestyle and has become a more vigorous advocate for accessibility and inclusion for people with disabilities.

The Community Wise Podcast is a conversation between LISC Greater Kansas City Development Officer Holly Long &  practitioners & thought leaders from the Kansas City Metro region in the fields of community development, social enterprise & social justice.
