Atlas Public Schools
About the project
Atlas Public Schools was founded by Teach for America alums Colby Heckendorn and Genevieve Backer and opened in the Fall of 2021. The mission of Atlas Public Schools is to educate the whole child by combining a rigorous academic program with authentic, real-world experiences so all students thrive in middle school, high school and beyond.
Atlas enrolls students from St. Louis Public Schools with preference for students in zip codes adjacent to the school's location.
LISC provided $7.77 million in financing to support the acquisition and rehabilitation of a four-story office building to provide a permanent location for the K-5 school. At full enrollment, the school will serve 624 students. Atlas focuses on place-based learning, diverse-by-design, year-round education and investing in educators.
