Staff from the Cincinnati Development Fund (CDF) explore the Affordable Housing Leverage Fund and its role in funding affordable housing. CDF manages the Affordable Housing Leverage Fund (also referred to as the “fund of funds”). The AHLFwas established to address the financial gaps inherent in the development of affordable housingby aggregating funding to provide a new and flexible source of financing tools to developers that will expand production and preservation of units by existing developers, entice new developers in the market, and attract new sources of private and public funding. Initial commitments to the fund include the City of Cincinnati Affordable Housing Trust Fund and other public and private funding sources.

In this session, we heard discussion among panelists about the connection between health outcomes and housing stability, including the four pathways connecting housing and health: stability, quality & safety, affordability and neighborhood characteristics.

In this session, we heard about the data used to measure housing affordability and determine housing need, fair housing policy and the impact of systemic racism in housing, and an overview on development budgets and the impact of various funding sources on project viability.

In this session, we heard about the various structures, funding and utilization of housing trust funds along with context on the proposed charter amendment which would require the City of Cincinnati to fund the Affordable Housing Trust Fund at $50MM anually. We led with an introduction from Robert Killins, Jr., from Greater Cincinnati Foundation and panelists included Katy Heins, from Community Change, Matthew Leber, from LISC Housing, Kelan Craig, from Ohio Housing Finance Agency, along with Joele Newman and Matthew Strauss representing Cincinnati Action for Housing Now.

Exploring "Connected Communities"

Learn more about the City of Cincinnati’s "Connected Communities,” the name given to a series of potential policy changes, and the process involved in crafting those changes, related to land-use that will help Cincinnati grow into a more accessible, people-focused, diverse, healthy, and connected community for all. The conversation focuses on the connection between transportation and land use and how more, and more diverse transportation options and more, and more diverse housing options can collectively make places more livable, sustainable, and connected.
