About LISC

One of the country’s largest social enterprises, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) works with residents and partners to help forge resilient and inclusive communities of opportunity across America. Since 1979, LISC has invested $20 billion to build or rehab 400,500 affordable homes and apartments and develop 66.8 million square feet of retail, community and educational space.

Like all of LISC’s 37 local affiliates, LISC Los Angeles serves as an intermediary, building bridges between local nonprofit partners and the resources they need to help transform underserved neighborhoods into thriving communities of opportunity and choice. LISC LA’s mission is to work with local leaders to invest in housing, health, education, public safety, and employment – these basic needs must be tackled at once so that progress in one is not undermined by neglect in another.

LISC’s national Safety & Justice program works with community-based organizations and local partners in Los Angeles and across the country to address crime, advance justice, and build safe, vibrant, and equitable communities.

LISC is committed to advancing community safety and justice through pre-entry and re-entry programs that help people stay out of the criminal legal system and help them rebuild their lives after incarceration. The ATI Initiative’s human-focused approach to justice system involvement that prioritizes “care first, jails last” is an ideal match for our approach.

The Los Angeles County CEO has engaged LISC as the third-party administrator for the ATI Incubation Academy. In this role, LISC will:

  • Administer funds to lead providers to conduct and expand diversion programs across Los Angeles County; and
  • Design and implement the ATI Incubation Academy, including both organizational capacity building and technical assistance, to bring additional qualified providers into the ATI Initiative.

Care First, Jails Last

In a post for LISC's Community Wise Blog, LISC Los Angeles Executive Director Tunua Thrash-Ntuk and Safety & Justice Vice President Mona Mangat discuss LISC's commitment to build ecosystems of care that provide alternatives to justice system involvement in communities impacted by mass incarceration.
