The Village of Arts & Humanities awarded $500K ArtPlace Grant

ArtPlace America announced that LISC's partner The Village of Arts and Humanities has been chosen from nearly one thousand applications to receive $500,000 through its 2017 National Creative Placemaking Fund. LISC has provided support of The Village's arts-based community development work for the past five years, and we are pleased and proud of the Village's accomplishments. This grant is a huge win for the Village, the Fairhill-Hartranft community, and for Philadelphia at large. This year, The Village of Arts and Humanities is the only previous recipient of ArtPlace funding.

From the Village's website:

The Village is a thrilled to announce we are a recipient of a 2017 ArtPlaceAmerica Grant of $500,000 to build The Civic Power Studio on our North Philadelphia creative campus. (This is our second award from ArtPlace!)

Over the next two years, we will embark on a community-driven design process to transform two vacant row homes into a site for residents, artists, law enforcement, and neighborhood stakeholders to collaborate on new public safety strategies rooted in care rather than control.

We are deeply humbled and honored to be recognized in this way. Congrats to all of the awardees—you are courageous, creative and talented—it’s a privilege to be in your company.

Please keep a look out on social media as we share more about The Civic Power studio’s partners and project genesis, along with unique aspects and sample works from our educational programs.
