Disaster Relief and Long Term Recovery

In 2019, City leaders asked LISC Jacksonville to lead Duval County’s Long Term Disaster Relief efforts focused on rebuilding urban neighborhoods damaged by Hurricane Irma and develop a cohesive disaster response plan for major disasters. In response, LISC Jacksonville engaged a Disaster Recovery and Resiliency Manager. Though the primary focus of this effort is preparing for the upcoming hurricane season, the Disaster Recovery and Resiliency Manager also played a major role in the community's response to COVID - 19.

Additional responsibilities include reinvigorating Duval Countys Community Organizations Active in Disater (COAD), an organization that had become inactive and ineffective, and using the memmbers of the COAD to design, develop and implement an organizaed response mechanism to natural and manmade disasters.
