Capacity Building

LISC was founded with the mission to help organizations become strong and stable neighborhood institutions characterized by effective and responsible fiscal management and capable of carrying out a range of community revitalization activities.

Through project and organizational development grants, technical assistance, training, and convening through our CDC Network we build the capacity of our on-the-ground partners. Funders, institutions, and agencies may contract with LISC to provide these services because they have a vested interest in strengthening the capacity of community organizations.

LISC helps build stronger organizations through a holistic approach that improves organizational systems and supports leadership, including:

  • Grants coupled with technical assistance, including:
    • Programs related to housing, economic development, community safety, community engagement, and creative placemaking
    • Strategic planning and operational business plan development
    • Property assessments to create capital improvement plan
    • Development of new local home ownership models
  • CDC Network - this peer-to-peer network support practitioners in their work through mutual support and sharing, and lifting up their shared success and challenges to local agencies and funders.
  • CapMap® - A system for assessing and then strengthening the capacity of community development organizations
  • Strategic Collaboration - Supporting partners across multiple sectors identify shared priorities for collaborative, place-based investments and programs, and jointly securing funding sources.
