Featured presenters in this workshop include Maya Hering from the National Endowment for the Arts and Our Town Technical Assistance Resource Team members Scott Oshima, Jamie Horter, Michaele Pride, Renee Piechocki, and Margy Waller.

Partnerships Workshop

Partnerships are a vital program element for successful and sustainable change in Our Town projects. Resource Team member Jamie Horter shares lessons and models for successful partnerships, including some preventative care tips for navigating conflict. Plus, Our Town grantee Forklift Danceworks’ leaders Allison Orr and Lisa Byrd offer their story of leveraging dance to build strong relationships with the parks department, city residents, and the East Austin neighborhood.

Community Engagement Workshop

Community engagement is a critical component of creative placemaking projects. It is an opportunity to foster greater community connections, build coalitions, and strengthen community ownership over the project. In this workshop, Resource Team member Theresa Hyuna Hwang leads a session on designing community engagement that centers community voices and people. Our Town FY20 grantee Cornerstone Theater Company shares their approach to collaborating with communities, including learnings from their current production Wicoun, created with and for the interconnected, but widely dispersed residents of the Sicangu Lakota Nation (Rosebud), Oglala Lakota Nation (Pine Ridge), Ihanktonwan Dakota Oyate (Yankton), and other reservations, as well as Indigenous communities in Rapid City, South Dakota.
