Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation (BCJI)

BCJI Results

Since its inception in late 2012, BCJI has grown to encompass a diverse network of 74 sites in urban, rural and tribal areas all over the country. All sites share a common goal: reduce crime and increase community safety in specific places within their neighborhoods. Because BCJI emphasizes a comprehensive approach that involves residents in identifying problems and implementing solutions, many BCJI sites also achieve results that strengthen their communities in other ways.

Common results include:

  • Reductions in crime and offending in targeted hot spots
  • Revitalization manifested as a neighborhood beautification, blight reduction, property rehabilitation and new homeowner and business investment
  • Greater social cohesion and community-police collaboration
  • Smarter resource deployment across sectors
