Raising the Roof: Solar on Rural and Tribal Housing

8.26.2022

Yesterday was the latest installment of our Raising the Roof webinar series. Our discussion centered around using solar power on rural and tribal housing. Installing solar on residential buildings can help reduce energy costs, improve values and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. While other energy costs increase, the cost of using solar to produce energy becomes more affordable every year. Adopting solar on affordable multifamily buildings is less expensive than other sectors across the nation; however, there are still many barriers to financing and installing solar.

In this “Raising the Roof” rural housing series discussion, affordable housing solar experts GRID Alternatives shared their experience in deploying solar in rural and tribal communities using their non-profit development model. In addition, Hilltown CDC of rural western Massachusetts, a Rural LISC partner, shared lessons learned from a recent solar feasibility study. See the recording below to learn the foundational information needed to bring solar to sites, reduce operating costs, and provide tangible benefits for residents.
